VISITING SENIOR SNUBBED

I am an out-of-province, visiting senior, 'home', to attend the Nutana Collegiate 100 year celebration. Familiar with the former ice cream store that was around the same location, my Nutana mates and I decided to treat ourselves to ice cream and relive old memories.

As I was visiting relatives, they had already taken me and other family members for ice cream at Homestead before my Nutana mates and I decided to go. In fact, I'd already already been here 3 times. Each time I came, I tried a new flavour.

This time when my Nutana buddies and I arrived, I asked to sample 2 flavours, however upon my request, the woman owner denied me a second sample, curtly stating only one sample per customer.

Needeless to say I was taken aback by her firm statement and felt very much 'put in my place'.

Now over my many senior years, I have tasted tiny-spooned samples of of ice cream around the world. No ice cream vendor anywhere has denied me a tiny taste of ice cream to help me decide on a desired flavor.....except for the woman owner of Homestead.

Shame on you!!!!

No where in your shop is there as sign that states One sample per customer.

Perhaps if a customer asks for a sample....at the time of giving them the tiny spoon..... you could tell them at they are allowed only one taste...........but to rudly announce that only one sample is given when I asked for a second, made me feel like I was being scolded, like Oliver, for asking for one more, please.

In my working years, I taught courses in Customer Service.......I must say you, Mrs. Homestead Owner would have benefited from my courses.

I hope you change your customer service tactics when it comes to samples (and other ways of dealing with customers as outlined by the grievences below) so our trips to your store can once again be as pleasurable as eating ice cream.

The ice cream is good (think frozen Cheesecake on a stick). But every time I go, I have a bad experience as far as service goes. I end up giving it another chance every 6 months or so, and I always leave upset (note that most of the service staff is good and will only come across as rude because they seem to be following the owner's rules). Most ice cream establishments cater to families, but not this one. I've gone with a baby in a stroller too. only to realize my baby had fallen asleep so I could not go in. There are also signs regarding children and what they are not to do in the building in more than one spot, and just a general negative atmosphere-especially if you bring children. Jerry's welcomes me and my kids and my stroller- even when they (gasp!) put their noses up against the glass to look at the ice cream. That's the atmosphere I like-and with ice cream that is just as good, it's an easy decision.

Homestead Ice Cream is amazing and anyone who thinks otherwise is clearly irrational. So what if you can't bring your SUV sized stroller into the establishment? Do you really hate your children that much that you don't want to hold them yourself? Get a life ladies!

The owner / manager is unfriendly and rude. He stood in the kitchen and glared at us the whole time we ate our ice cream... very off-putting! I will never spend another penny in that establishment, think that crusty old man should find a different profession!

Myself and my wife walked into the place today to order some icecream cones, and upon reading that they charge more money for two different flavors on a cone, shook our heads and pronmptly walked out. They will not get our business ever again. Its not a huge extra charge, but merely the principle. Is there some sort of big deal with putting different flavors on a cone?? An extra dunk of the icecream scoop in water before getting the second flavor costs more?? Totally ridiculous, and a total moneygrab scam......

I cannot believe an ice cream store would NOT allow strollers in their establishement. The
staff were so rude when we walked in with our stroller that we just left. These people are obviously in the wrong business, we will never go back and will urge people to stay out of such an unplesant business.

Rudest owners ever! Not family friendly!

there appear to be two listings for this place. I was shocked last night to be told to please leave with a stroller when we were only coming in to buy ice cream for 5 people (not the baby in the stroller). The owner was so rude we all left. Perhaps if he had better people skills one of us would have waited outside, but the way we were treated none of us will ever go back. How disappointing that an owner doesn't treat his customers well.

Fabulous restaurant. Best job I've ever had, too.

Nothing special about this place. I heard it is a awful place to work though.

I love this place, some of the best soft serve I've ever had. Went on a weekly basis this last summer.

2007-08-29 18:19:13

The owners are extremely rude and unwelcoming. If you have a stroller with a baby, you'll be met at the door and told you can't come in, not even to order and leave. Although the shop was completely empty, they claimed that there was no room and we would have to go outside. What's a mother supposed to do?
