Average service, but good food. A bit expensive for the portions.

I was very disappointed the last two times I was in Montana's. As you can see, I tried to give them a second chance. The first time, I ordered a sandwich and the bread was SO soggy that it was mush in my hand. I complained to the waitress, she got a manager that offered to take it off the bill When I saw the bill, it showed a 10% discount on the sandwich, I still had to pay for something that was gross and soggy! Then on my second visit, I decided to order a hamburger, which I had ordered at the Calgary restaurant and it was good. We had ordered appetizers first and when we asked her about the status of that order, we were told sorry, I forgot to order them for you, would you like them now? We said yes and she went to the kitchen to find out that our main course order was ready anyway so she asked if we wanted the appetizers and the main at the same time. I told her not to worry about the appetizers, that the four of us were hungry from waiting. She gave us our main courses (which were fine) and then as she was cleaning the plates, she offered me dessert to say sorry. I thought that was really nice of her and said I would love to see a dessert menu, my husband and I were going to share it. She left to get the dessert menu, and as she set the menu on the table, she said maybe I didn't specify, you can only have a kid's dessert, these you will have to pay for I was offered a COOKIE!! I told her I wasn't interested in the dessert of a 10 year old and asked for the bill. My husband still left a tip, even though I didn't think we should have left one, but his argument was that this issue is the manager's and not hers. I am completely disappointed in how I was treated, BOTH times!

Food was OK, not excellent closer to average. We went on an all you can eat rib night and that was awfull. I told the server I wanted a double portion right away because they were very busy, now bear in mind I'm a big guy. The way they do the all you can eat is by starving you to death waiting to get more ribs. The first time they brought my ribs there was 5 spindly little ribs so I ordered 2 more (supposed 1/2 racks) right away, the waiter came back 15 minutes later with another 5 spindly little ribs. At this point I was mad and the waiter told me they are told to bring the food this way so you fill up on bread etc. and get tired of waiting. I said I don't care what the policy is I want at least 1 full rack immediatly or else he could bring the manager to explain what all you can eat means. He brought the ribs and the manager was watching from behind a pole, I suppose he thought I was going to put them in my pocket and feed my family. I'm not immpressed and will never go back as long as I live, it was very insulting.

Unfortunately we did not get to taste the homestyle beans as they did not have any on Sunday, June 4th. We really wanted to try them and so we were disappointed. However, the portions of the roasted chicken dinner was very good and tasty. We ordered extra barbecue sauce because we didn't know that it came with the chicken and the waitress did not let us know that was included which we thought that if she knew her job she should have told us when we ordered. We were able to get right in without standing in line or sitting in the lounge ordering drinks that we did not want. This is the reason we have not eaten at Montana's since they opened in Saskatoon as there is always a line-up and you should be able to reserve a table which is another reason that we haven't eaten there before. Sincerely Karen Neufeldt
